Track Changes

Track changes provide an inventory of changes made to the document during the production process. Changes are tracked in the text area, as well as in individual components.

View track changes

Edits in the text portion of the document

In the main text area, changes are tracked as:
  • Red strikethrough across text for deletion
  • Blue underline for insertion
  • Orange underline for formatting chanes

Review changes at a glance

  • Click on the Changes tab in the right navigation panel.
  • Changes are categorized based on type with a:
    • Red box for deletion
    • Green box for insertion
    • Orange box for formatting changes
  • Changes are arranged in reverse-chronological order (most recent first).
Tip: Changes can be filtered based on type (described above), role and name of the user. Note: Changes logged under the name "Exeter" refer to technical edits made during auto content processing.

Edits made within objects

  1. Changes made to objects are indicated as follows:
    • Blue background for a newly added object - author information, footnotes etc.
    • Orange background for edits made within an existing object - author information, footnotes etc.
    • Blue outline for newly added figures, tables and references.
    • Orange outline for edits made to existing figures, tables and references.
  2. Click on an object to view the changes
  3. Changes are displayed under the Change History tab within the dialog box.
  4. Click on the Filter History icon on a particular field to display only changes made to the corresponding field. 
Note: Edits within objects cannot be accepted or rejected. Any changes made have to be overwritten.

Hide track changes

  1. Click on the Hide/Show Track Changes icon to toggle between views without/with tracked changes.
  2. Note: Any edits made to the content in the Hide Track Changes view would be marked-up and would become visible in the Show Track Changes view.

Accept/reject changes

If you are an author, you will not be able to accept or reject changes made by previous users; you can only reject changes made during this stage.

Accept or reject tracked changes from the main text area

  1. Click on the edit you want to accept or reject.
  2. Click on Accept or Reject from the pop-up.
  3. The markup for the edit is removed and the edit becomes permanent (accepted) or is removed (rejected) from the content.

Accept or reject tracked changes from the right panel

  1. Click on the Changes icon in the navigation toolbar.
  2. Scroll to the edit that needs to accepted or rejected.
  3. Click the green tick mark button to accept or the red cross mark button to reject the edit.
  4. The markup for the edit is removed and the edit becomes permanent (accepted) or is removed (rejected) from the content.
