What is the issue that requires troubleshooting in this case ?

The equation citation is not mapped correctly for an article. For example, clicking on citations meant for Eqn 20 will lead the user to Eqn 21.

What are the possible reasons for the occurrence of such errors ?

(1) It could be because of a problem with the manuscript. In the manuscript itself, the equations are broken in a manner that one equation is broken into several lines.

(2) It could be because a “display” equation has been tagged as “Inline” or vice versa.

Example manuscript: link

How to identify which equations are in correct format, and which equations require troubleshooting ?

Correct form of equations:

As we can see in the image below, there are two equations, they are in microsoft word format. These equations appear in one line without breaking. This is the correct format for how equations should appear in a manuscript.

Incorrect format of equations:

However, there are certain equations in the same manuscript that appear in a format which will cause error in further stages if the same manuscript is loaded in the structure content stage. Sharing the image below:

How the system is going to react in this case

Here, the equations are spread over more than one line. If this manuscript is loaded in kiryadocs, the system will assume that these equations in separate lines are separate equations. Therefore, these will be numbered internally as described in the image below:

Where is the fault ?

In such a scenario, the operator has made an error. Ideally, the following should have been done.

Ask the publisher to provide the correct manuscript

OR

Ask for more time for all the cleanup that needs to be done in the manuscript

How to fix this error ?

Merge all the different parts of a particular equation into a single box. For a single equation, different parts should not be in separate boxes.

What should a Level 1 support person do if they encounter such an error?

A Level 1 support person should do the following:

If the article is in relatively earlier stages (Pre-editing stages)

Ask the publisher to provide the correct manuscript

 OR

Ask for more time to clean up. The article should not go to the next stage after structure content, instead after fixing the manuscript, the manuscript should be loaded in the structure content stage.

If the article is in the later stages

The issue should be escalated to the Level 2 Techsupport.

Apart from the issue of equations appearing in multiple lines, what are the other things that should be checked if such equation related errors occur ?

Level 1 support people should check the following:

(Before moving to content review stage):

All the equations which are display type - they should be marked as “Eqn Para”

All the labels for such display type equations should be marked as “Eqn Label”

It will save a lot of time of Techsupport and production if these checks are done.

Therefore, the above two points should be checked by the operator before moving the article to the next stage from the Structure Content stage.
