‘Proof controls’ are special features available in kriya to apply layout formatting overrides in the proof.
Select a word or phrase in the text
Choose the Proof control option appears in the Edit option (External user) and Hover menu (Exeter user)
Choose the type of proof control that needs to be applied. The options are listed below:
Margin (pt in hint)
Word Spacing --
Force Justify
Column Break
Non-breaking Space
Vertical Justification
Spl Paragraph Style
Spl Character Style
Remove Para Indent
Margin feature can be used to add space above section heads (heading levels). The value given as input will be an addition to the default value set in style. Users can increase the space by increasing the values starting from 1 and also users can decrease the space by decreasing the values starting from -1.
Example:
Word Spacing feature can be used to track paragraphs to gain/loose lines. This is a helpful feature for base aligning/column balancing. The preferable values that can be set in the UI are as follows: from 0.23 for tightening to 0.43 for loosening. This value can be extended on either side to 0.15 for tightening and 0.55 to loosening, respectively for abstract and body sections. Values between this range (0.23-0.43) would be more appropriate.
TODO: Add how it looks in the proof
Force Justify option can be used to break lines within a paragraph. Carefully review the PDF after applying the force justify it may tend to create more tight/loose lines.
This feature is currently not in use
Non-breaking Space can be used to keep words together on proof.

Spl Paragraph Style is used to apply a specific style for a paragraph. This option is mainly used by Exeter’s internal production team and development will decide the style to be applied for the specific project.

Example:

Example:
Click on the paragraph in PDF, there will be a blue line shown at the left edge of the paragraph. Clicking on the blue line will open the proof control window with the following options:
More Tight

These options used to track paragraphs to gain or loose lines. This is mainly used for base aligning and column balancing
Red line indicates that tracking has been applied to the paragraph. Clicking on that will open the proof control window and will show the option selected for that paragraph.

Option showing in PDF place floats and Editor place floats differ. For example, I tried to place the figure in the second column, so that selected the column start as 2 on PDF proof control, it did not work.
It shows the editor place floats as different.
No option to remove the values once applied.
It is working when changed to Column 1 in editor place floats
Width factor given as 150 - PDF place floats
It is not working
