How to handle queries for unlinked citations

The following options are available to resolve queries if reference/object citations are provided in the text, with no corresponding reference/object in the document: 

Link existing 

  1. To link an existing reference/object to the in-text citation, click ‘Link Existing.’ 
  2. Choose the reference/objects to be cited from the ‘Reference/objects’ tab. 
  3. Choose the type of citation—direct or indirect—from the drop-down list at the top left corner. 
  4. Click ‘Save and Close’ to add the citation/object at the cursor location. 

Add new 

  1. Add a new reference/object to link to the in-text citation. 

Not a citation 

  1. If the provided text doesn't correspond to a reference/object citation, click ‘Not a link’. 

Reply 

  1. Type in the response to the validation query in the reply to tab.  
  2. The next user in the workflow resolves the validation query, or checks changes implemented in the editor. 
  3. Authors have the additional options to select Unable to resolve. 

 

Cite now 

  1. Click on ‘Cite Now’ to add an in-text citation to the reference/object.   

Delete reference 

  1. Click ‘Delete reference’ to remove the reference/object from the document. 


Note: You must respond to all queries that are addressed to you before signing off an article/chapter to the next stage.
