How to cite a reference?

To cite a reference, you can use four different methods. 

Method-1: 

  1. After inserting a new reference, a notification will be displayed in the top right corner of the window. 
  1. Click ‘Cite Now’ to cite the reference or ‘Later’ to close the notification. 

 

  1. After clicking 'Cite Now’, you'll see a notification outlining how to cite a reference.  

 

  1. Click on the desired location within the text to cite the reference and click 'Insert.' 

 

Note: References can be inserted in various formats, which can be personalized according to the journal's style.

Method-2: 

  1. Click ‘References’ icon from the top right tool bar to view the list of cited and uncited references. 

 

  1. Click on ‘Uncited’ which will list out certain uncited references. 

 

 

  1. After clicking 'Cite Now’, you'll see a notification outlining how to cite a reference.  
  1. Click on the desired location within the text to cite the reference. 
  2. Click ‘Insert as’ to insert a citation or ‘Cancel’ to discard. 

 

  1. The uncited reference will be marked as cited and will be removed from the uncited reference tab. 
  2. The below screenshot gives the view after citing a reference within the paragraph. 

 

Method-3: 

  1. Click a reference that you want to cite and select ‘Cite Now’. 

 

  1. After clicking 'Cite Now’, you'll see a notification outlining how to cite a reference.  

 

  1. Click on the desired location within the text to cite the reference and click 'Insert.'

Method-4: 

  1. Click on the desired location within the text to cite the reference.
  2. Click 'Insert’ menu from the toolbar. 

 

  1. Click ‘Citation’ which thereby opens a pop-up containing all the references. 

 

 

  1. Select ‘Direct’ or ‘Indirect’ citation option from the dropdown.    

 

  1. Direct citation types (without brackets) are used in the beginning of the sentence and indirect citations (with brackets) are used in the end of the sentence.

  1. You can add multiple citations by clicking the specific references. 

 

 

  1. Click ‘Save and close’ to cite the references.
